Two colleagues of mine from the University of Bristol (Cristina Rowley and Jutta Weldes) are curating an exhibition called Portraits of (In)Security which will be running from 29 May to 4 May at the Centrespace Gallery in Bristol.
The show is described as a multimedia exhibition that:
'brings the local community together with artists, activists, scholars and students in a unique space in order to explore the interconnections between identity and (in)security and between art, activism and academia. The exhibition includes award-winning work by students from the University of Bristol.'
The launch is tomorrow and will include a talk on art and politics from Dr. Bradley Stephens, a performance of an extract from 'Rendition Monologues' by Ice and Fire Theatre Company, and a Q&A session followed by a wine reception.
Next week there will be a workshop exploring the relationships between politics, art and culture, and discussing methods of cultural and visual analysis as well as a short talk by Professor Cynthia Weber and screening of her 'I Am an American' series of short films.
Further details can be found here. If you are going to be anywhere near the Southwest of the UK, this exhibition and the special events will be well worth checking out!
